VCT text and image

This term in VCT we where discussing the relationship between image and text and how they affect each other. We discussed what happens when there are together, which one is more powerful. I believed that the image would always be more powerful because it is what you first see in a poster so it gives you before hand an expectation already of what it will be about, and the text focuses your attention and is what determines how to interpret the image. But after many conversations on our VCT sessions we came up with the conclusion that it depends completely on the image that you have and on the text, because you can have an image that is super strong and a text that just complements the image, or a strong text complimented by an image. We also talked about Michelle Foucault and his writings about authorship, I thought it was quite interesting to see how he was questioning what is required to be known as an author, can anyone be an author? or do you have to have a certain standard as a writer in order to be an author.

We had to write an essay that dealt with the idea of the relationship between image and text in a specific contemporary artist that uses this technique in his work. I chose to explore Barbara Kruger work and analyse her posters in relation to the subject of matter.
